Friday, May 16 was cause for celebration by citizens in Weber County as R&O Construction and Weber County broke ground for a new library headquarters. Hundreds of children from North Park Elementary took part in the excitement as they sang about libraries and took turns “digging” the dirt for the groundbreaking. After the ceremony, organizers gave out library books and served more than 1,000 hot dogs to families who took part in the celebration. R&O’s BBQ wagon and staff were on hand for the cooking, and library employees served up the dogs.

Located at 2025 West 4000 South in Roy, the facility will be approximately 75,000 square feet consisting of library service and program areas; galleries; auditorium/theater; meeting rooms; food service; public computer access; technology “maker” spaces; materials handling and storage; traditional and electronic research centers; administrative offices; data center; system support services and storage spaces, and outdoor gardens and programming spaces. The Roy Library is the first facility to be completed in the Weber County Library five-year capital plan.

Construction of the Roy facility will take approximately 14 months.
